This is a one-day INSET teacher training course “Cross-Cultural Teaching and Learning”. Course Feedback

Staying at the University during the course was a good decision, modern and easy to locate lectures, bus stops, refreshments – a pleasurable experience – I am sorry my daughter is going to a university at the other end of the country!

The course content is essential information for any boarding school accepting Chinese students. The information was highly relevant and effectively delivered with personal insight and contributions from school students, graduates and postgraduates. I return to Rossall with real understanding and appreciation, motivated to advance the really good work we already do.

Anton Maree, Deputy Head, Rossall School

I was intrigued by the title of the programme, coming just as we have had a new intake of year 12 Chinese students. It was well worth the time sacrificed from my teaching commitments as I have learned so much about the backgrounds, motivation and aspirations of our Chinese students. I return to my school with a raft of strategies to help our students cross the linguistic, cultural and academic barriers they face and enrich the educational experience they have with us.

Hilary McCann, Head of Sixth Form, Berkhamsted Schools Group

This is a well-balanced course with theory and practice. The lecturer went into depth of the cultural luggage Chinese students carry with them when learning overseas and thus creates a good starting point for the educators in a different educational setting to set up a programme to better cater for the needs of these overseas Chinese learners, given emotional, academic or cultural.

Xiaoyan Wan, Wycombe Abbey School

I learnt so much on this course. The new knowledge I gained about Chinese culture, education and student expectations, and the advice I received from teachers and students will definitely help me to improve my Chinese students’ experiences whilst studying at a British University.

Dr Laura Dickinson, Faculty of Engineering, University of Bristol

Interesting course for teachers to know about Chinese cultures, Chinese teaching style and the weak points Chinese students have. Knowing how to make the education system operating better to make Chinese students adapt to the learning environment easily

Kaiwei Barber, Ashford School

A very enjoyable experience that was a true cultural experience. Very thought provoking and challenging.

Liz McKee, Wiltshire College (Salisbury Campus)

Well planned and delivered. Fascinating speakers. Highly informative. I feel empowered and can’t wait to implement some changes. Any school with students from China will gain a great deal from this course.

Victoria Eastman, Head of ISC, Moreton Hall School, Shrewsbury

We both really enjoyed the course and found it immensely useful. I think Kate learnt more in three days than she would have learnt in a year working here!
